Academic Papers
Microneedle Pulsed-RF Electrotherapy (Medical Lasers 2017): Ahn and Cho (2017) described microneedle, pulsed, bipolar AC radiofrequency (RF) treatment in two patients with nasal rosacea.
RF applied in six to twelve sessions using a 1.5 mm needle probe placed on the cheekbone of both patients resulted in significant improvement in redness, papule-pustule lesions, and telangiectasia in the nose.
The study reported significant clinical improvements without any side effects.
RF and Nerve Transmission (Molecules 2021): Oh and Ark. (2021) showed in an experimental study that radiofrequency (microneedle RF) application reduced symptoms such as burning sensation in rosacea-affected skin via the TRPV1 receptor.
Pain and burning sensation decreased after RF application in both the in vivo UVB model and rosacea patients; TRPV1 activation and the expression of related neuropeptides were inhibited at the molecular level. This study provides mechanistic evidence that RF therapies alleviate burning/itching complaints in rosacea.
